I choose the poem The Road Not Taken written by Robert Frost, who was a well-known poet in the 20th century in America. Since its publication in 1916, the poem received large amount of popularity and was studied and interpreted into many versions in the center of two interpretations of literal and ironic versions. Apart from its popularity and reputations, the poem sounds readable with a rhyme scheme of ABAAB and is full of connotations, which makes me understand better how to make choices in the life later and thus attracts me to a large extent. After reading the poem, I know that there are many twists and turns in the life and it is common and normal to meet the time of making difficult decisions in the life, but every time making a decision and choice means a new point to people, so people should not be afraid of and regret making choices and decisions in the life but should insist on the path that they have chosen.

As for the two interpretations: literal interpretation and ironic interpretations, they both have similarities and differences. The two interpretations both think that the poem is composed of four stanzas. The first stanzas mainly tells about the speaker’s position and the second stanzas pays attentions to the roads that the speaker chose to travel and describes his ideas that the roads are not exactly that same but only about the same. As for the third stanzas, this part continues with the cogitation about the possible differences between the two roads and the last part holds the key idea of the poem. The two interpretations have similarities on the aspects of the analysis of the plot of poem and the poem’s idea.

On the other hand, the two interpretations are different. The literal interpretation analyzes the poem literally as an expression of individualism, while the ironic interpretation thinks the poem as irony by the critics. The two interpretations produce differences mainly on the analysis of the poem’s contents specifically. For example, on the final two lines “I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference”, the literal interpretation thinks the “difference” as a positive kind of difference, while the ironic interpretation views on the contrary that the choice made little or no difference at all. All in all, whether the literal interpretation or the ironic interpretation, they both have their reasonability and indicate an idea that life is a process of making choices continually.

The film ‘The Idiots’ is quoted to show how new punk cinema betrays dogma and rebuilds the spiritual values of the public. At last, the author uses a saying ‘Dancing in the dark’ to explain the status of new punk cinema in quo. What’s more, it also points out that the relaxing of critique has become the signatory gesture new punk cinema when facing the overriding entertainment apparatus.

After reading the article, firstly, I think the author has many experiences in explaining new punk cinema. He or She uses many films, works and music to give full analysis of the core of new punk cinema. The structure of the article is clear and well-organized which I should pay more attention to. Secondly, I agree on the core of new punk cinema, that is self-awareness. I think with the development of economy and technology, people should be more active and sensitive to knowledge and information rather than get it passively. Meanwhile, everyone should have the courage to destroy the dogma and have a positive spiritual value. However, each coin has two sides. When we appreciate new punk cinema, more attention should be paid to the bad effects caused by it.
